SEATON HALL ROOM 142 REMODEL
Kansas State University - Manhattan, Kansas
4,300 Square Feet
The existing agricultural engineering machine shop in Seaton Room 142 was under-utilized for research due to lack of natural lighting, technology, poor sound acoustics and inadequately designed HVAC systems.  The renovation goal was to transform the space from shop to showroom by developing an innovative academic teaching, research and outreach center.
The new design created a multi-functional open learning environment.  The south end includes a classroom space, an existing storage mezzanine, and a "Walk of Fame" for department awards and displays.  The north end provides adequate space for off-road machinery research or laboratory exercises as well research space for design teams and senior projects. A large, energy efficient window in the northeast corner provides natural light in the lab.
Interior finishes include seamless epoxy flooring in the lab and research areas, and a textile composite flooring in the classroom space.  Durable epoxy resin countertops were chosen for the research labs.  The exterior façade received new metal panel siding to conceal the original leaking and non-operational metal windows.  New LED lighting was installed throughout, as well as a new HVAC system and fire sprinkler system.
