Phase 2 of the $104 million Jardine Apartment Redevelopment project added 20 apartments in each of three separate buildings with a total of 138 bedrooms. Unit types include two-story lofts and one, two, three, and four bedroom options. Each apartment has a full kitchen with a complete complement of appliances. All units with two or more bedrooms have two full baths and multiple lavatories. Bathroom fixturing is designed for privacy of multiple users.
Individual unit designs were based on exhaustive research into national trends in higher education residential communities. The identified "market" for Phase 2 apartments is unrelated underclassmen. Numerous focus groups with current, past, and potential residents were assembled to gather input on virtually every detail–from bedroom and storage size, to kitchen drawer width/depth.
The buildings were designed to comply with the new 2010 ADA requirement that university housing meet the standards for transient housing with mobility and communication features on all three floors of each structure, and with each floor served by an elevator. Each building also has its own reinforced concrete storm shelter.
