STRASSER LANDING APARTMENTS
McCullough Development, Inc - Manhattan, Kansas
46 Units
Designed as a “new urbanism” residential buffer between one of Manhattan’s oldest neighborhoods and the new commercial uses of the redevelopment project, Strasser Landing Apartments provide 46 one- and two-bedroom units in six 2-story buildings.
The buildings were designed following the Marketplace “Design Guidelines” for architectural character, materials, fenestration, and orientation adjacent to the city street. The row-house character created was reinforced by manipulation of the entrances to the upper story units. Open stairs were extended beyond the building face to the edge of the city sidewalk in lieu of interior stairs. Apartment interiors contain one or two baths, open “loft” style kitchens with solid surface tops and stainless steel appliances, and 9-foot ceilings. Kitchen and bath cabinetry was custom-built locally. Prior to first occupancy in August 2010, all units were pre-leased, testifying to their popularity of design and location.
The project received the 2011 Community Enhancement-Infill Award from the Manhattan/Riley County Preservation Alliance.
