JARDINE 'D', 'E', 'F' AND 'G' APARTMENTS
Kansas State University - Manhattan, Kansas
76 Units - 68,000 Square Feet
Jardine Buildings D, E, F and G are part of the original 1950's-era student housing complex undergoing a complete renovation to meet the needs of undergraduate and graduate students. The design is based on the successful prototype design of Building D, which has become the "most desired" apartment style of the redevelopment to date. The original two-story structures consisted of one- and two-bedroom single-story units accessed by an exterior balcony/patio which extended the entire length of the building.
The comprehensive renovations are both exterior and interior in nature. Interior designs created one- and two-bedroom single-floor apartments, and two- and three-bedroom, two-story townhouses. Each individual unit has a private balcony or patio, full kitchen, washer/dryer, and occupant controlled mechanical system.
The exterior renovations retain portions of the original brick. However, by incorporating lap siding, double-hung windows, and decorative trim these renovations blend with the architectural motif of the adjacent new buildings. A third story was added to portions of each building to increase the number of available bedrooms and make effective use of the change from a flat roof to pitched/gabled rooflines. The design also eliminated the stark front/back appearance of the original building. Instead, apartment entrances face all directions and integrate well into the landscaped grounds, pedestrian paths and parking areas.
