K-STATE PARKING STRUCTURE
Kansas State University - Manhattan, Kansas
444,000 Square Feet
The Kansas State University’s first and only parking garage is located at the southern edge of the campus and provides 1,400 stalls with parking for faculty, students, and the public. The prominent location provides easy access to the K-State Student Union, Alumni Center, and McCain Auditorium. The third level of the garage is linked by a covered skywalk to the main level of the Union.
This design concept was developed to comply with campus planning standards, and with reference to contextual architectural features and materials common to the K-State Campus. Each facade is of a slightly different design; a gesture to the unique architectural character of adjacent buildings. These features include native limestone masonry, windows and arches, and textured architectural precast concrete.
The structural frame is of cast-in-place, post-tensioned concrete. Floor plates are level at the building perimeters, with ramps located in interior bays. This intentional feature eliminated the “garage” appearance found on many standard parking structures. The structure is founded on 5-foot diameter drilled caissons, averaging over 50 feet deep.
The Parking Services office is located in the south end of the garage providing a convenient location for patrons to purchase parking passes and service other parking needs.
